GET TO KNOW GIRLBOYBEAUTY

YOU KNOW THOSE FACELESS, BIG-BOX BEAUTY BRANDS?

WELL, WE’RE NOT ONE OF THEM. WE’RE A DIVERSE TEAM OF INDIVIDUALS MOTIVATED BY A MISSION TO MAKE BEAUTY ACCESSIBLE AND CELEBRATED BY EVERYONE, REGARDLESS OF THEIR GENDER IDENTITY.

THE GIRLBOYBEAUTY MISSION

We believe beauty is for him, her, they, them – you. Our vision is to create a world where beauty transcends gender so we can better celebrate individual identity. Our mission is to allow every person a chance to be their true self, and our hope is girlboybeauty will be an instrument in that journey.

Girlboybeauty is for the him who wants to accentuate the beauty in his features. He who breaks through the stigma of cosmetics being solely “feminine.” We are for the her who wakes up confident and ready to face the world in her fiercest look. The self-made women living day by day just waiting to blossom.

We aim for a world where they all can be their true authentic selves, courageously rebelling against gender norms.

THE JOURNEY

“WE CAME TOGETHER TO CREATE SOMETHING SPECIAL. SOMETHING OPEN AND ACCEPTING. SOMETHING UNIQUE IN ITS APPROACH THAT CHANGES HOW WE PERCEIVE AND DEFINE BEAUTY. AND THAT IS HOW GIRLBOYBEAUTY WAS BORN.”

MEET THE FOUNDERS

KIMBERLY SCHANZER | COFOUNDER

Although I’ve been in the beauty and skincare industry for over 11 years, for most of my adult life I was intimidated by makeup. I didn’t know how to apply it and when i tried, I didn’t feel beautiful. So, I rejected makeup entirely – until I met Robert in the summer of 2016. He taught me how easy it can be to highlight my features in a natural or dramatic way, depending on my mood or event. I began to feel empowered by makeup rather than intimidated by it and came to realize that I am beautiful with or without it. I wear makeup when it strikes me – dark on dark days, cherry blossoms on light days, or sometimes just mascara to make my eyes pop!

Have I struggled with gender identity? No, I have not. But I have worked very hard, whether it be in school, at my job, or personally, to be the best that I can, and to be kind and thoughtful while doing it. As an esthetician, I’ve had the opportunity to help people and have a positive impact in many lives. Now I bring that same desire and passion for people to girlboybeauty, along with my knowledge and experience as an entrepreneur, to help people feel beautiful just being who they want to be.

ROBERT GARCIA | COFOUNDER

My “preferred gender pronoun” (PGP) is he and/or her, but i love to call myself a “boygirl.” I’ve always felt different growing up. I was never masculine enough to hang with the boys and never feminine enough to be a part of the girls, and my unique attitude was open to exploring both spectrums. Eventually i determined that i needed to live for me – not what society wanted me to be.

I began with eyeliner and the rest is history. Being a boygirl is living with no gender normality, understanding that some people will see a powerful woman and others will see a strong man. In my case, neither offends me. If anything, it’s amusing to see people get tongue tied when trying to place me in a gender category!

Having been in the beauty industry for 10 years, the most important thing i have learned is to listen and understand what people need, want and love when it comes to enhancing their beauty. But I always struggled with the fact that there were so few gender-neutral brands. My purpose for being a part of GBB is unity. Gender identity unity. Creating a brand that advocates for self-love. A brand that is accepting and comforting for little boys/girls just like me.
